"HIP HOP SAVED MY LIFE!"
Selah Guru — a lyrical artist and performer born in Harlem, NY, and raised in Augusta, GA — is the co-host of The Boom Bap Hour, Hip-Hop Expressive Coordinator, and founder of the Supreme MCs Rule Hip-Hop Expression Program, an initiative dedicated to improving economic and social outcomes for K–12 youth. Through the elements of Hip-Hop, the program fosters self-expression, emotional intelligence, and social skill development.
Inspired early on by his mother, who recognized his natural talent, Selah entered his first major talent contest at just seven years old — performing Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean” at the Augusta Civic Center and taking home first place. Since that pivotal moment, he has commanded stages nationwide, performing at numerous Hip-Hop shows and festivals.
Early in his career, Selah showcased his lyrical prowess in front of legends such as The Notorious B.I.G., Doug E. Fresh, and Sway of MTV — all of whom acknowledged his extraordinary talent and encouraged him to continue pursuing his craft. Drawing inspiration from rock, jazz, soul, and Hip-Hop, Selah’s sound defies categorization. As a freestyle artist, he’s in constant evolution — but his message remains rooted in Hip-Hop’s original spirit: truth, consciousness, and authenticity.
A true thoroughbred of the culture, Selah Guru embodies Hip-Hop in every sense — from his words to his style. As he proudly declares, “Hip Hop saved my life!”
Beyond the mic, Selah has a keen eye for discovering and nurturing new talent. His leadership in Hip-Hop education and community empowerment earned him recognition as a finalist for the A3C Action Accelerator for Hip-Hop Social Change and as a Fellow of the Lincoln City Fellowship, sponsored by The Speranza Foundation.
